faith community nursing | caring companions coordinator ext. 216
Cindy Dixon is a registered nurse who says the crown jewel of her 30-year nursing career is Faith Community Nursing (aka parish nursing). Her role at Calvary as unpaid staff began in 2005, with fifty hours of training and technical assistance through St. Joseph Mercy-Oakland (hospital). Calvary’s pastors offer direct oversight and regular coaching for Cindy’s role in extending pastoral care, and in training a ministry team called Caring Companions.
Her passion is helping people make the connection between faith and health, and to trust God in the midst of whatever health challenges they may be facing. You will find her leading the Prayer Shawl Ministry group, making hospital visits, home visits, checking blood pressures, or just generally touching base with folks regarding their current healing journey.
Cindy is supported and encouraged in ministry by her husband, Dennis, and together they are rejoicing in the new adventure of being grandparents to Malena and Charlotte Anne. Cindy says being a Grandma has expanded her heart for ministry, and in her free time, she enjoys reading, journaling, knitting, gardening, and exercise walking (“Count those steps!”).
