intern pastor ext. 211
Hello Calvary Lutheran! I have been on an incredible journey of discernment, discovery and preparation for pastoral ministry. Now I am extremely excited to be joining your church family for the next couple years as an intern from Trinity Lutheran Seminary. Thank you for making this happen so quickly so I can begin learning and growing with you this fall.
I was born and raised on Long Island, NY. No, I do not know Donald Trump; I do love pizza, The Yankees (sorry), the Jets and the NY Knickerbockers! I have not found a great slice of pizza since leaving NY. But, my nature is filled with hope, so maybe one of you can end my quest! I have traveled throughout the United States over the years during my previous career in business management and development. I finally settled in Michigan in the fall of 2002. My wife Diane is Pastor at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fowlerville, MI where we live. I have two adult daughters, Sara and Kaitlynn, living in Grand Rapids, MI. I am a trained Spiritual Director and retreat leader, having completed my training in 2012 through the Living Fire Ministries in DeWitt, MI. I am currently a seminarian attending Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus Ohio as a Master in Divinity candidate. So, be on guard! I might just try and recruit you because Trinity is a wonderful, faith-opening experience! I enjoy conversation (I am a New Yorker after all!), reading, going to the movies, sports, singing and watching great sunsets. My spirituality leans toward being contemplative but I find God in the unconventional as well. I love outreach ministry and worship and I generally spend 2-3 hours daily reading scripture and about our faith life. I love walking beside and with people that others have forgotten or pushed to the side. And I am thrilled that I will get to know many of you while we do these things together! (Ok maybe not all the reading!)
I have met with Pastor Jonathan and some of Calvary’s staff and leaders, and now I am excited to meet you, as “better together” we are the Holy Spirit filled band of sinners and saints that are the hands and feet of Christ for the world! Thank you in advance for your patience while I’m learning and for your investment in my education. I look forward to helping Calvary’s ministry grow and I pray I will be a fully present witness for Jesus Christ always and wherever I go.
